1. Wash 1 cup uncooked wild rice thoroughly.
2. Add to 3 cups boiling water, salted to taste, in a heavy saucepan.
3. Return water to boil and stir.
4. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 50-60 minutes or just until kernals puff open.
5. Uncover and fluff with table fork.
6. Simmer five additional minutes.
7. Drain any excess liquid.
8. For chewier texture cook less time.
