Canadian wine in the Wall Street Journal

In the November 14, 2014 issue of the Wall Street Journal, Lettie Teague wrote about Canadian wine, though all the wines came from the Niagara region.

A few key points:

1) Martin Malivoire focuses on Gamay. He’s the largest bottler of Gamay in North America.

2) She also enjoyed Cabernet Franc from Stratus Vineyards, made by Jean-Laurent Groux.

Sunday Dinner: November 30, 2014

Roger picked out prime rib for my Sunday Dinner. It weighed 1 1/3 pounds. Google found this recipe:

I put some salt and Dave’s Special Steak Rub on it. I oven seared it at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Then I cooked it for 90 minutes or so at 300. It was well done, so overcooked.

I included a Chieftan potato and it turned out great. Steamed Brussels spouts were the veg for the night.

A 2000 Cabernet Merlot from Daniel Lenko was disappointing. It is probably past its prime.

I really enjoyed the meal, just wish I had not cooked the beef as much.
